Link-building playbook
Two tactics that outperform everything else combined. Neither requires budget. Both require consistency.
Embed links
Every embed snippet includes a visible Powered by Spin the Wheel dofollow anchor. When someone embeds the wheel on their site, that anchor passes link equity to Spin the Wheel. One backend change — the attribution link — is worth an estimated 400–600 links across 150–250 domains once adoption reaches scale.
Why this works
- The link is visible to users, not hidden — Google trusts visible attribution links more than footer links.
- The embedder benefits: the link signals to Google that their page references a trusted tool.
- The free-month incentive removes the only objection (removing the link to clean up their page).
- WheelOfNames cannot replicate this — their embed has no attribution anchor.
Outreach email — embed offer
Subject: Free interactive wheel for your [topic] page Hi [Name], I saw your [article/page] on [topic] and thought an interactive element might make it more useful for readers. We built Spin the Wheel — a free, embeddable decision wheel. One line of code, no account needed. There's a visible "Powered by Spin the Wheel" link below the wheel (good for your readers, and it helps our SEO — we're upfront about that). Keep it live and we'll give you a free premium month. Embed code: spinthewheelapp.com → Share → Embed on your website [Your name]
Google Alerts → unlinked mention outreach
Spin the Wheel is mentioned constantly in articles, forum posts, and teacher resources — without a link. These are the easiest links to get: the author already knows the product exists. Outreach to unlinked mentions converts at 30–40% — far higher than cold link requests.
Step 1 — Set up these 8 Google Alerts right now
Go to alerts.google.com and create one alert per query. Set frequency to "As-it-happens" and delivery to your email.

- Open the page. Does it already link to Spin the Wheel? → archive, done.
- Is it a blog post, resource page, or article? → high priority, email within 24h.
- Is it a forum post or Reddit thread? → reply in the thread with a direct link (no email needed).
- Is it a news article? → find the journalist on LinkedIn or Twitter, send a DM.
Step 3 — Outreach email template
Subject: Quick note about [their article/page title] Hi [Name], I came across your [article/page] on [topic] — great piece. I noticed you mentioned [picker wheel / spin the wheel / random wheel] but didn't link to a specific tool. We built Spin the Wheel (spinthewheelapp.com) — it's free, has no ads, and includes a provably-fair spin system that publishes a cryptographic receipt for every result. If it's useful to your readers, a link would mean a lot. Happy to return the favour. [Your name]
Practical order
- Set up Google Alerts today — takes 5 minutes, runs forever, zero cost.
- Promote the embed on every tool page — already done. The "Get embed code →" banner is live below the How to use section on every wheel.
- Respond to every alert within 24h — speed matters; the author is most receptive while the content is fresh.
- Track embeds monthly — check which domains are keeping the attribution link and send the free-month upgrade manually.
Do not chase "wheel of names" brand terms. 657K searches defended by 7,900 referring domains is unwinnable this year. Go at use-case searches — what to eat wheel, prize wheel, team generator, giveaway picker — where nobody has a brand moat.
